Well, I needed to find an original gift for my girlfriend ( logitech z523 speaker was just ready). One day I clicked one ad here on ATM.....it was the perfect item , my girlfriend always studies on his bed using his notebook, everytime staiyng in really awful positions. But the original one was too expensive, didn't want to buy it for that price.....and so? So I thought that basically this is a bunch of pipes linked together, I was sure I could create it myself, just taking cues from original one... This was the pretext to buy a welder too, which I was thinking about since some years. And here we go! I started from this tripod my grandfather used as aid to repair TVs, which is unused since some years ( granpa is gone). ![]() It wasn't easy, this is my first metal job and so my first weldings, engineering was a bit hard too. At first I hadn't to much hope, but after some pratcice with welder I started to see the final result :) Now it's the time for some photos, few photos....sorry for the quality, I had little time, litte will and light in that room really sucks when you have to take photos. No really detailed project, but photos speak themselves. Cut and polished tripod part ![]() Added nut to block upper part, this is my first welding, be kind :) If you manage to start welding....start with flat parts, pipes are really difficult to weld in first place... ![]() Welded arm and filled the horrible welding ( repeated 3 times before welding it decently) ![]() The joint, one of the hardest parts ( but weldings here are almost nice! :D) And this iron bars are little bastard, hard to drill and bend ( without proper drill bits and tools) ![]() ![]() Cut the base from a pine board, later I'll paint it with "plastifier" ![]() First test...it fits! :) ![]() Painting parts ![]() And here it is the final result! ![]() Some details ![]() ![]() ![]() And here in his designed place ![]() I know, construction is bad, there isn't one piece right assembled, no simmetry....but it works and it's really comfortable! I'm happy of the result of my first work using metal parts, really had no time to make it better and look after details. Yes, even holes in the wooden part are wrong! lol If you use laptop on chair, armchair or bed, this is the final solution! If you have no will to build this.....you can always buy the original one :P Maybe I'll update project with better photos, if I find time to take them Remove this ad by registering or by logging in.
