Renovation of Honda Z50J
Honda Z50J pulled up from boiler room and Suzuki just after summer maintenance.

Suzuki got new mudguards and freshly painted engine covers. Everything else is just scrubbed clean with cloth.

Honda has had some improvements including 124cc engine and 20mm Keihin carburettor and new tires.

Bought this one over year ago for 30eur. After countless hours of work and a lot of money it looks like this. It's a real shame that I didn't take any "before" pictures of this moped.

Now it has been fitted with new tires and a 124cc engine.

Briefcase computer updated

I decided to add a stereo amplifier inside the case. Sound comes straight from motherboards front panel connector so i can use either amplifier or normal 3.5mm plug for sound.

I built the amplifier, modified right size heatsink from old P3 heatsink, cut hole for molex and made a break-out box for terminals.

Yay ! It sounds fantastic and if needed it can also whip up hell of a volume :)

Title: Random Säätöä
Created: 22.11.2006 15:18

Slightly tinkered with my Fujitsu P5730 workstation today.

Bought a Radeon HD 6850 with Accelero Twin Turbo II cooler for 50€. Since there was no way of fitting the huge GPU cooler next to the large CPU heatsink, I decided to toss the original fans and just zip-tie a 120mm one on instead. I also had to cut a bit from the fins, since they were making contact with the screws of CPU heatsink.

The stock 300W power supply also didn't have a PCI-E 6pin connector, so I had to mod my way around that. I took a spare PCI-E wire of unknown modular power supply, cut it apart and soldered the three yellows and blacks together. After that I ripped apart one of the S-ATA power connectors, soldered my wires there to the 12v line and reassembled the connector.

300W PSU might sound too small for this kind of setup, but the load test confirmed my calculations: It's close, but it's still sufficient since the computer won't crash even under full load.

The temperatures on Furmark & Orthos load were around 50'c for CPU and 78'c for GPU. The noise level is almost inaudible and in this case the loudest sound from the computer is the slight humm of HDD spinning.

Demolux overhead projector
17" Samsung LCD-panel with anti-glare coating removed
Some cardboard and tape for the cover.

Turned out extremely nice. It's big and ugly, but makes a good ~100" picture. Total cost for the sound and video setup ~50eur, so I'm pretty darn satisfied with the outcome.

Next step is to make thicker curtains to block the light from outside.

One unfortunate 8800 GTS G80 decided not to work with me anymore, so it has now a new job as a keychain.

Turned out quite nicely in my opinion.

I picked up an external hdd it's power supply from recycling bin in hope of getting a working enclosure for one of my drives.

When I first started to test it out, I noticed a whizzing sound coming inside the power supply and the HDD didn't spin up properly. After short moment with multimeter it turned out that the power supply was not giving out the right voltages.

I cracked the casing open and noticed three popped capacitors. I replaced one with new, but the two others were too bulky to fit inside the housing. So here is the solution.

After testing it again, it turned out that the HDD itself was working. Now i have 400GB external HDD.
